ANIMAINE was founded in 2011 and is in its eighth year. But some people are still learning just what we are. Here's three quick facts for those interested in vending, selling art, or sponsoring.

TINY CONS DO IT BETTER

Our attendance is usually between 300-400 including our staff. We like being a small show because it encourages new friendships and conversations. Just because we're little doesn't mean we don't pack a punch, though: attendees come from all six New England states and New York and many come back every year.

Where bootlegs go to die

We have a bit of reputation for being tough on bootlegs. Not just "we don't like them" tough, but "we destroy them spectacularly" tough. Our strict anti-bootleg policy applies to both artists and vendors, so read it carefully before applying.

Positive attitudes only

ANIMAINE is an inclusive, celebratory environment. We're here to have a good time with everyone. Our restrooms are gender-free. Our anti-harassment rules are meant to be followed. Our beer is locally sourced (and only for those over 21). We're proud of our little show and we want to share it with you. Leave your woes at the door.

Artists

ANIMAINE has spent several years overhauling its artist program. We want to encourage new and professional artists alike to come to our show and share their gifts. ANIMAINE is a great place to test out new products with a very interested and dedicated base of consumers.

We love originality
We require that all artists have at least 50% original material at ANIMAINE. We love fan art and we know how important it is to your fans - and your wallet - but we want to encourage you to show off your creativity. Make sure there are samples of your original work on your website or social media accounts.

Our Artist Alley is juried
Unlike some conventions, ANIMAINE does not have a first come, first served Artist Alley. Our AA is juried, which means staff review all applications and invites artists that ensure that we have a mix of media, skill level, and opportunity.

Artist spaces are 3 feet long. Artists can double this space to 6 feet for $25.00.

Fees & Fine Print
If selected to vend, you will be asked to pay a deposit of $50.00 by September 1, 2018. Additionally, you will need to purchase a badge by September 1, 2018. The full amount of your deposit will be refunded to you on November 11, 2018, after you have exhibited for all three days at ANIMAINE. If you choose the double space option, please note that your additional $25.00 payment is not refunded.

Artists are required to provide the convention with at least one original piece of art which fits our theme. That could be a representation (like a drawing or figure) of our mascot or a craft that fits our annual theme (our 2018 theme is "shounen").

ANIMAINE has a strict no bootleg policy. We encourage artists to create derivative works ("fan art") so long as that does not exceed 50% of the products they offer for sale at the convention. However, artists with works which are not derivative, such as traces or precise imitations, may be removed from the convention floor by ANIMAINE staff.

You must be at least 18 years old to vend at ANIMAINE.

ANIMAINE offers financial assistance for artists currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in New England. If you are a current student with proof of enrollment and attendance as of October 15, 2018, and you are selected to vend, the cost of your convention badge may be reduced or covered completely by Animaine Inc. You will still be required to pay the $50.00 deposit.

If you are selected to vend and withdraw from vending, your deposit will be refunded as follows:

  • If you withdraw prior to September 1, 2018, your deposit will be refunded in full.

  • If you withdraw on or after September 1, 2018 but prior to November 1, 2018, 50% of your deposit will be refunded.

  • If you withdraw on or after November 1, 2018, you will not receive any refund.

We do not refund badge purchases for any reason at any time.

Vendors

For the first time in our history, we are inviting vendors to apply for our 2018 show. We strictly limit the number of vendors at ANIMAINE because of our small size and we carefully jury our vendor selection to ensure that we do not have overlapping vendors.

We're a small show with a love for good stuff
ANIMAINE attendees love their merchandise. We might be small, sure, but we buy. Vendors that do well at our show sell figures, games, anime, manga, and unique merchandise.
Please note that the sale of food products of any kind is prohibited. Animaine Inc. reserves the sole right to sell snacks and beverages.

Our Dealers' Room is juried
Unlike some convention which operate on a first come, first served model, ANIMAINE has a juried Dealers' Room. This means that our staff review applications and select dealers who will give us the best product mix for our attendees.

Fees and fine print
The cost to vend at ANIMAINE 8 is $199.00. We limit the total number of vendors to four, or approximately one per 90 attendees. If we miss our attendance projection, we will pro rate the cost of vending relative to attendance. If you have questions about this policy, please email us.

A deposit of $100.00 is due by September 1, 2018. The full amount is due by November 11, 2018. The convention allocates two badges for each vendor and additional badges may be available at a discounted rate.

You must be at least 18 years old to vend at ANIMAINE.

Vending space is approximately 64 square feet. The convention provides two 6- or 8-foot tables (depending on what tables the venue has available) and two chairs. Vendors may not purchase additional space.

ANIMAINE has a strict no bootleg policy. A bootleg item is one that is not authorized for sale by the intellectual property owner or their designated representative for our media market. The convention has the sole right to determine whether a product violates this policy. If the convention requests that a vendor remove violating items, the vendor must comply immediately. Failure to comply can result in immediate ejection from the convention. ANIMAINE offers no refund for a vendor that is ejected for violating our anti-bootleg policy and reserves the right to notify law enforcement if the violation is egregious. If you are unsure whether you may sell bootleg items, we discourage you from applying to vend at our show. ANIMAINE takes this issue very seriously and employs professional rights agents to patrol vendor and artist areas.

If you are selected to vend and withdraw from vending, your deposit will be refunded as follows:

  • If you withdraw on or after September 1, 2018 but prior to November 1, 2018, 50% of your deposit will be refunded.
